About 90-95% of people with diabetes have type 2.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Diabetes Risk Factors.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Type 1 Diabetes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Type 1 diabetes is thought to be caused by an immune reaction (the body attacks itself by mistake). Known risk factors include:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Family history<\/strong>: Having a parent, brother, or sister with type 1 diabetes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Age<\/strong>: You can get type 1 diabetes at any age, but it\u2019s more likely to develop when you\u2019re a child, teen, or young adult.&nbsp;<strong>Type 2 Diabetes<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019re at risk for developing type 2 diabetes if you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have prediabetes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are overweight<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are 45 years or older<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a parent, brother, or sister with type 2 diabetes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are physically active less than 3 times a week<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have ever had gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy) or given birth to a baby who weighed more than 9 pounds<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Diabetes Symptoms.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you have any of the following diabetes symptoms, see your doctor about getting your blood sugar tested:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Urinate (pee) a lot, often at night<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Are very thirsty<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lose weight without trying<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Are very hungry<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Have blurry vision<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Have numb or tingling hands or feet<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Feel very tired<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Have very dry skin<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Have sores that heal slowly<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Have more infections than usual<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Diabetes Tests<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Fasting Blood Sugar Test 2.&nbsp; Glucose Tolerance Test 3.&nbsp; Random Blood Sugar Test 4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tests for Gestational Diabetes 5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Glucose Screening Test 6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; A1C Test<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes often develop slowly. In fact, you can be living with type 2 diabetes for years and not know it. When signs and symptoms are present, they may include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increased thirst<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Frequent urination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased hunger<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unintended weight loss<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fatigue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Blurred vision<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slow-healing sores<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Frequent infections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Areas of darkened skin, usually in the armpits and neck<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Diabetes.
